Skill Enhancement

Skill Enhancement is an essential element of Athletic Performance.  To reach or even just maintain peak performance one should continuously look for ways to develop his or her skills, abilities, and competencies.  Through effective skill enhancement, individuals become more capable, competent, and confident in themselves and their performance, and are better able to reach the goals they set for themselves.

A skill enhancement plan is most effective when it is connected to the person’s goals and objectives.  Therefore, it is essential to first set goals then determine which skills need to be addressed in order to reach that goal.  By linking skill enhancement to long term goals, will help ensure the motivation and desire to build that skill.

Each person should begin by completing an assessment to measure his or her current skill level.  From that assessment they can determine the skills and competencies they want to address.  They should then determine the best course of action to obtain or hone these skills.  The plan may include such actions as taking training courses, attending seminars, or reading books.  It is also essential to recognize and note the benefits of enhancing the skill.  Knowing the benefits will provide a greater purpose and incentive while working to develop the skill.
