Athletic Training

Athletic Training is a key component to athletic peak performance.

Training is a development process designed to improve performance.  It is a combination of specific activities that lead to a skilled behavior.  Simply stated, training is learning how to perform a behavior.  There are different types of training.  The two main divisions of Athletic Training are mental and physical training.  Both are essential to maximize performance.

Mental Training

Mental training, most often link to business training, is a development process that involves the acquisition of knowledge, enhancement of skills, or changing of attitudes and behaviors to improve performance.  For example, a person may learn how to operate a machine or computer operating system at work.  Mental training can also involve the acquisition of habits or attitudes or the development of a mind set.  For example, a person can learn to become more self confident, more self aware, or goal orientated.

Physical Training

Physical training is the development of the physical body in order to perform at a higher level.  As part of physical training a person may learn how to properly gain muscle, perform a lunge in a gym, proper stretches activities.  Physical development can also include understanding nutrition, breathing exercises, and relaxation methods.

 Enhancing performance through learned activities

Both types of training are designed enhance performance through learned activities.  Mental training focuses on the mind, while physical training focuses on the body.  Even though the primary focus may be the mind or may be the body, most training incorporates both elements.  For example, in order to properly and efficiently operate a computer software system, one will need to understand the concept and the steps, he or she must also be able to physically operate the computer.  Likewise, a person not only must physically perform a set of lunges or squats, he or she must also understand how to correctly perform the action.
